EMF - Electro Magnetic Fields, an item now found in every investigators kit, from cheap £20 versions, to those running in the hundreds. Why do we use EMF meters in paranormal investigation? Does anybody involved in the subject truly understand the reasoning’s?

Many website now take the money of investigators for equipment they suggest to detect ghosts. EMF meters are frequently sold as ghost detectors, an idea unchallenged by most.

There are even theories about the electro-magnetic properties of ghosts, based not on evidence but on speculation. To some, the use of EMF meters is to scientifically track ghosts but wasting time maybe a more accurate description.

EMFs are infact, invisible fields of energy produced whenever electric current is flowing. EMFs are biologically active and a great deal of information exists regarding the health effects of EMF stimulation on animals, including humans. Evidence suggests that EMF exposure may cause many more problems than previously contemplated and include effects on the human body, including that some people may experience and report paranormal like phenomena resulting from their exposure to a high amplitude domestic Electro Magnetic Field. Prolonged exposure to the high amplitude EMF may increase the amount of reported paranormal activity. Additional factors may be responsible for the actual nature of the reported phenomena including an individuals susceptibility, exposure time and socio-cultural beliefs

So why do the more scientific groups carry EMF meters on investigations? Scientists have tested theories that natural electro-magnetic fields are in fact influencing paranormal phenomena. This means that EMF in fact influences what an individual is experiencing at any time. Add to this actual paranormal phenomenon and expectation, witnesses may be reporting normal phenomena to the paranormal

Let us also remember that the usage of such high technology equipment has been introduced within the last 5-6yrs, what did the paranormal investigator do before programmes like Most Haunted cause the EMF unit to become the paranormal investigators must have piece of equipment. Nothing, only in the laboratory and parapsychological departments, the work of Professor’s like Michael Persinger and Richard Wiseman, actually looked at the importance of EMF and the physiological matters.

The final hurdle, however, is that EMF meters do not detect influencing EMF with any degree of accuracy. EMF meters specialise in detecting wholly unnatural EMF, such as those from electrical wiring. An EMF meter that actually detects what investigators are looking for could set you back a large amount of monies.

So why do we use EMF meters? We can never rule out any enquiry without studying it properly.
