1995, WIDNES:
A woman saw a "bell shaped object" hover over the Mersey near Fiddlers Ferry power station. It appeared to be "sucking up a column of water" from the river. Six other passers-by also witnessed the event. This was the start of a two-month spate of sightings over Halton. Many witnesses saw all manner of unusual objects and lights, ranging from bright star like objects, flying discs and black triangles to huge wedge shaped objects which were described as being larger than two football pitches.
An email (01/10/02) was received regarding this sighting, this after the original witness was interviewed regarding the case.
UPIA hold documents and news clippings from original sources.
Hi Dave,
I just wanted to comment on the paragraph below:
"1995, WIDNES: A woman saw a "bell shaped object" hover over the Mersey near Fiddlers Ferry power station. It appeared to be "sucking up a column of water" from the river. I believe I also saw this object in 1995. I can't remember the date, but at the time I was a student and was seeing a girl in Warrington. I was driving home from her house at between about 2 and 3 am (I think, I can't remember the exact time) and was extremely tired (burning the candle at both ends :). I was living in Norton Cross in Runcorn at the time and had driven up the A56 from Warrington and turned right at the Daresbury Lab onto the A558. As I drove down that road, I noticed a light somewhat to the left of the leftmost cooling tower at fiddlers ferry and slightly above that height, almost straight ahead of me, but some way off in the distance. I though at first that it was the moon (it seemed to be the right colour/luminescence) but I then noticed the shape, kind of bell-shaped, but with a squared off top and bottom. My second thought maybe a new building that was going up on the other side of the Mersey and that it was being lit, or had a beacon on it to warn aircraft and tht my view of it's shape was wrong (remember, I was very tired, in fact I could barely keep my eyes open).
I slowed right down so that I could try and make sense of what I was seeing. Underneath the object, it seemed distorted somehow.
I then decided I was seeing things and drove the rest of the way home, feeling a little unnerved.
I did read the story in the local paper a few days later and my heart stopped when I saw the artists impression, as I was exactly as I'd seen at the time.
I know it's a long time after the fact, but I thought you might appreciate my sighting story. I'd like to remain anonymous, however I am more than happy for you to contact me for further info if you wish.
Regards
